Hastings Green Party is very pleased to announce that Julia Hilton is up for re-election in Old Hastings Ward.
I have lived in Hastings for fifteen years, and I love the energy, creativity, and diversity of our unique and historic town. As a landscape architect, my professional focus has been on collaborating with community groups to regenerate and transform urban spaces.
I have lived in Hastings for fifteen years, and I love the energy, creativity, and diversity of our unique and historic town. As a landscape architect, my professional focus has been on collaborating with community groups to regenerate and transform urban spaces.
Becoming the first Green councillor in Hastings in 2021 was a very proud moment for me, and I serve as both borough councillor for Old Hastings and county councillor for Old Hastings and Tressell. When the local Labour party collapsed earlier this year, leaving the council without direction, I stepped up to become leader of the council.
Since being elected, I’ve made it a priority to engage with residents through regular monthly drop-in sessions, ensuring their voices are heard in council decisions. I’ve worked diligently to provide closer scrutiny of council decisions and promote more collaborative working within the council. Additionally, I’ve been actively involved in shaping environmental procurement policies, updating climate emergency plans, and participating in performance reviews of pothole repairs.
My persistent advocacy for wider implementation of 20 mph limits has resulted in a commitment from the county council to review its speed limit policy.
I am deeply committed to continuing my service to the residents of Old Hastings, which is not only the heart of many beloved festivals and events but also a key attraction for visitors to Hastings. It’s essential that we work together to build a sustainable future for our festivals, culture, and the arts, as they play a crucial role in our visitor economy. We must ensure that our town remains vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking for generations to come.
