Hastings Green Party has grown in strength over recent years, and membership is now at a high, with members all over the town. We have a councillor on Hastings Borough Council as well as East Sussex County Council.
In recent years, we have been at the forefront of calls for progressive, pro-environment, pro-community policies in the town. We ran a successful campaign against proposals for a multi-million pound marina in Old Hastings, which the council was planning. We campaigned successfully against plans for a solar farm in the middle of Hastings Country Park: renewable energy is crucial in the fight against climate change, but it has to be in the right place, not in a fragile, protected, rural environment. Hastings Greens proposed the climate emergency bill which the council passed in 2019, and we are working to ensure the council lives up to the climate commitments it made.
Currently we are meeting online, but before the pandemic we held regular speaker meetings, social events, and business meetings, open to all members or potential members. We are a welcoming group and look forward to meeting new members, or newly active members, when the conditions allow. We would love you to join us!
The Green Party Political Programme sets out what Greens are in politics to do: to end the system that keeps hurting the environment and all of us who rely on it – and to build a better alternative.
This Programme isn’t like other parties’ manifestos, it has not been squeezed through focus groups and stripped down according to the latest polling. Instead it has been built from policies proposed and voted on by our members, looking to secure the long term future of the places and people they love.
It’s a vision of a better world, and together we can deliver it.
