Jo Walker is a Green Party councillor for Ore and Hastings Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Neighbourhood Wellbeing. She brings energy, principle and deep local knowledge to her work, with a strong focus on making Hastings a healthier, more connected and more sustainable place to live.
As Portfolio Holder, Jo leads on:
Working with communities on cleaner, safer neighbourhoods
Local environmental policy and biodiversity
Parks, green spaces and community wellbeing
Climate resilience and ecological recovery
pioning greener, fairer neighbourhoods in Hastings
Jo also serves on several key bodies:
- Chair – Hastings Country Park Management Forum
- Chair – Joint Waste and Recycling Committee
- Member – High Weald AONB Joint Advisory Committee, Joint Parking Board, Charity Committee, Full Council
- Member – Combe Valley CIC
- Steering group for Plastic Free Hastings
- Trustee for Ore Community Land Trust
Jo is passionate about neighbourhood renewal, participatory democracy and climate justice. She’s a vocal supporter of joined-up approaches to tackling fuel poverty, local food access, and active travel. She believes real change starts from the ground up, led by empowered residents, bold councils and partnerships built on trust.
Before entering politics, Jo worked in education before becoming an Ofsted-graded outstanding childminder. She brings that same practical, child-centred, and community-focused mindset to her work as a councillor.
Jo is rooted in the Ore community and committed to transparent, responsive local leadership.
